Eileen Askin Memorial Award

Eileen Askin

Eileen Askin was a long time volunteer with H.E.A.D.S. soccer and had been a tremendous supporter of many other activities in Erin/Hillsburgh.

She supported H.E.A.D.S. in so many ways.  Over the years she had been our Treasurer, Indoor Soccer Co-ordinator and even in her time of illness she insisted on supporting the kids of our club as our Referee Scheduler.

Eileen passed peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, in Orangeville on Sunday, June 26, 2011.  She was able to find and create love in the short time she was here and has been a blessing in many lives.  She was a wonderful, kind hearted woman who is truly missed.

We are honoured by the time she spent with us and have renamed Field 5 at Barbour as Eileens field.

The Eileen Askin Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteers

In 2015 we created the Eileen Askin Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteers.

There are so many volunteers who have given freely of their time over the past 30+ years and the decision was not an easy one but, our first recipient was decided by the H.E.A.D.S. executive at our November 2015 meeting and has received her award at our December 2015 monthly meeting.

We are pleased to announce that Betty Harper has been chosen as our 2015 recipient

Betty has volunteered with H.E.A.D.S. as our Head Ref, Referee Scheduler & our Field Scheduler.  A sibling of Eileen's, she moved to our town in 2011 to be here for the family then soon stepped up to volunteer with HE.A.D.S. and took on Eileen's work as Referee Scheduler.

Over the years Betty has worked tirelessly to arrange our Outdoor seasons by working on behalf of H.E.A.D.S. with the Escarpment & North Peel Halton League, the Southwest Region Soccer Association & South West District Soccer League as well as the Town of Erin to make it possible for our teams to have practice/play time, our refs to be trained, our fields to be compliant with OSA standards and many other tasks.

Even after Betty had relocated to Kitchener she continued to step up.  She has seen our 2015 season through to the successful conclusion of our year end tournaments and has been a great support in many other ways.

We are so proud to be able to give this award to Betty and the Executive would like to recognize and thank her for the many hours she has dedicated to H.E.A.D.S. over the years.

Thank You Betty, it's been an honour working with you!
